Why should I get an enema?
A high enema is often given for relieving constipation, before a proctoscopic examination or various other procedures.
The high enema is not painful, but the patient should have the colon completely filled. This means that a healthy patient should receive enough water to fill the colon to the cecum or end of the colon if a complete clearing or systemic therapeutic effect is sought.
How is an enema administered?
During the administration of the high enema, you will be asked to lie on your left side, with the right leg flexed. This position will enable the enema solution to flow easily into the rectum & colon.
The quantity most commonly used is approximately one or more quarts warm filtered water that is placed in an enema container with a flexible tube or custom nozzle. The tube will be lubricated and inserted into the rectum, after which the solution will be administered slowly . Injecting the solution slowly helps to minimize discomfort.
It is also helpful to breathe slowly and deeply through the mouth to help minimize discomfort and enable you to take the high enema more easily. If you experience cramps, we can slow or stop the flow of the solution momentarily to make you more comfortable. Once the high enema is administered, you will probably feel the need to have a bowel movement. If possible, wait about 5 to 20 minutes before using the toilet to get the best results.
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
The number of sessions needed in large part depends on the goal of the individual. Yes, one session will empty part of the colon. However, from my own personal experience as well as monitoring and assisting clients I have found one does not normally start releasing the old, long held waste until the 5th or 6th session. Thus, the clients that have the most success, complete a series of 12 sessions. This series consists of two sessions the first week, two the second and then one a week for eight weeks. I also recommend maintenance sessions of once a quarter or change of seasons. Some people follow an ongoing cleansing, toning and rebuilding regimen for their inner body and receive sessions every 6 to 8 weeks.
A high enema is the cleansing of the colon or large intestine. It involves the injection of a solution into the rectum to soften the feces, distend the rectum and colon, and thereby cause the easy emptying of the bowel.
