We have all heard stories about inflamed colons and how important it is to keep them clean. But, do we know why the colon is so important and what role it plays in the human body?
The colon is nearly the last stop in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, or digestive system. The GI tract is a muscular system responsible for transporting and digesting food that extends all the way down from the mouth to the rectum. It is the colon’s job to eliminate unwanted material from the body such as toxins, poisons, parasites, and heavy metals. While the colon eliminates toxins from the body, it also takes in water and vital minerals.
Along with the colon, the lungs, kidneys, and skin also help remove toxins from the body. It takes all of these organs, working together, to keep the body healthy and functioning. A sick or damaged colon can result in toxic buildup, which can poison the body.
